Bridges & Crowns

Dr. Macks offers both Dental Crowns and Tooth Bridges. Dental Crowns are fixed prosthetic devices. They cover the tops of damaged or decayed teeth. Dental Crowns are cemented onto the existing teeth and should be removed only by Dr. Macks.

Tooth Bridges are fixed but removable. They are recommended if you are missing one or more teeth. The Bridge spans the space where the teeth used to be. If there is nothing placed in the space where the tooth used to be the other teeth will eventually rotate or shift into the empty spaces.

A Dental Crown covers the damaged tooth entirely. It also is used to improve the tooth's appearance, shape or alignment. The Dental Crown can also be placed on top of an implant to provide tooth-like shape.

Tacoma Invisalign woman putting tray on teeth

Dr. Macks office in Tacoma, WA offers Invisalign® to his new and existing patients.

Invisalign® takes a modern approach to straightening your teeth. The aligners are custom-made for your teeth only. They are made of smooth and virtually invisible plastic that you wear over your teeth. In time, through the use of Invisalign® your teeth will gradually shift back into place. No more metal brackets, no wires to tighten and no more major discomfort.

As a patient of Dr. Macks, you will achieve a great smile with little to no interference with your daily life or routine. The most important part is that most people won’t recognize that you have these aligners in your mouth.

Here is how it works:

  • Dr. Macks will create a customized treatment plan just for you. He will create a 3-D image of your teeth and show you how your teeth will move within each stage of this dental treatment.
  • You will wear your aligners throughout the day but take them off when you eat, brush or floss. As you wear, each set of these custom made aligners your teeth will gradually begin to shift into place.
  • Approximately every two weeks, you will wear a new set of aligners. The process takes you to the next step gradually. Dr. Macks will see you every 6 weeks to monitor your progress.

Mini Implants

Dr. Macks has been offering Mini Dental Implants in his Tacoma, WA office for over 30 years. Mini Dental Implants offer patients a solution for smaller teeth or incisors. Also, this narrower implant may best serve patients who require stabilization of lower jaw dentures, pre-molar teeth, or a missing tooth that was located in a narrow area.

Only a few dentists can perform this procedure effectively, and Dr. Alan Macks is one of those cosmetic dentists in Tacoma who can perform this service.

Here are some core differences between traditional implants and mini implants that Dr. Macks offers:

  • Mini Implants are approximately half the width of their traditional counterparts
  • The implant is not fully submerged during a narrow implant procedure
  • Should implant failure occur, the small size (that of a toothpick) means grafting is not necessary
  • Mini Implants are less costly
  • Mini Implants are solid though they do not contain a screw

Teeth Whitening Before and After Photo

Teeth Whitening or bleaching is a non-invasive treatment used to lighten the appearance of natural teeth for a brighter smile. It helps to remove stains and discoloration. Teeth whitening only works on natural tooth enamel so crowns, and restorations will not whiten with bleaching. Instead, we recommend restorations and crowns be done after bleaching so the teeth will appear more uniform.

Teeth Whitening is among the most popular cosmetic dental procedures in the world because of its strong appearance it has on the color of your teeth.

Dr. Macks uses custom made trays, which fit your mouth that you wear at home to achieve the level of lightness you desire. Teeth Whitening is not permanent and does require touch-up applications. Ask us about our Forever Whitening program at your next dental visit.

The most common reasons for yellow or stained teeth are:

  • Using tobacco
  • Drinking dark-colored liquids such as coffee, cola, tea and red wine
  • Not taking good care of your teeth.

Emergency Dentistry doesn't always involve teeth but may be the surrounding tissues. Many dental emergencies can range bacterial/fungal/viral infections to potentially a cracked tooth. Also considered an Emergency Dental situation is a tooth that is falling out or fractured in some manner. Many such occurrences happen with young children or car accidents.

A Dental Emergency is rarely considered a medical emergency, and there is a very low threat to your life. Regardless, all dental emergencies should be handled in a way that preserves the area damaged.
